The name “Rife Machine” is in many ways misleading because Dr. Rife’s been dead for some 35 years and the last machine built under his direction was built in the 1950’s. Dr. Rife used the available equipment or technology of his day. The instrument Dr. Rife used in the 1934 clinic was assembled from standard off-the-shelf frequency generating equipment. By off-the-shelf we mean, anyone could purchase this equipment because it was standard electronic test equipment. In 1923 Dr. Rife purchased the Colin B. Kennedy Company equipment. Dr. Rife used the Kennedy Model 110, 220 and 281. The Model 110 had the broadest frequency range from 12,000 hertz to 2 million hertz. The frequencies that Dr. Rife used with the Kennedy equipment ranged from 139,200 hertz for Anthrax to 1,604,000 hertz for the BX cancer virus. The audio frequencies that were used by Dr. Rife’s machines in the 1940s and 1950s were less effective than the high RF frequencies.

The single most important consideration when purchasing a frequency generator is the FREQUENCY RANGE of the instrument. If it does not have a frequency range of at least 2,000,000 hertz (2 million or 2 Megahertz) then you will not be able to use Dr. Rife’s original high RF frequencies. With a frequency generator that has the ability to cover the entire frequency range of 1 hertz to 2 Megahertz it will be possible to not only use Dr. Rife’s high RF frequencies but also use his low audio frequencies. Many people ask, why in the world would anyone want to be limited to just the low audio frequencies used in the 1940s and 1950s when Dr. Rife’s 1920s and 1930s frequencies were all in the higher RF range?

In 1935 Dr. Rife’s engineer, Philip Hoyland, moved the frequency generating equipment forward from the 1920s to the new technology available in the 1930s. This new instrument was called the Rife Ray #4. But even this was nothing revolutionary because Philip Hoyland used a standard M.O.P.A. transmitter design. M.O.P.A stands for “Master Oscillator Power Amplifier.” This design had been used for several years and all Hoyland did was attach the ray tube where the metal antenna was connected. A ray tube was just an X-ray tube re-gassed with noble gases such as neon, argon or helium. These gases did not put off any harmful X-rays and were safe to use. The safety of these gases have been demonstrated by the fact that light bulb companies use these types of gases in the light bulbs that they sell for public use.

This same basic M.O.P.A design was used until the 1950s. The major difference that was made to the equipment was the frequency range. Dr. Rife’s original 1930’s equipment output, through a ray tube, frequencies mostly in the A.M. radio band. This could cause interference with A.M. radio stations if the equipment was used within one half mile of a radio station. It appears for this reason in the 1940s the frequency range was lowered. The FCC (Federal Communications Commission) will not allow interference with radio stations. Dr. Rife also use unshielded lead wire that hooked up the ray tube to his instrument. This would not have been a big problem but his lead wires were very long and made it so that the instrument would broadcast a very long distance. When they tested his Kennedy equipment back in 1934 the instrument would broadcast several miles.

Dr. Rife did all of his high frequency work in the 1920’s and 1930’s before the formation of the FCC. The FCC was not created by Congress until 1935 and really didn't object to the type of instruments built by Dr. Rife until about 1940. At this time A.M. radio stations started expanding all over the United States. Under these conditions and as the laws changed so did Dr. Rife’s frequency instruments. During the 1940s and 1950s his ray tube instruments were eventually restricted to using just low audio frequencies, on a fixed carrier frequency, instead of variable high RF frequencies. These changes in the 1940s and 1950s also made Rife’s instruments less effective than his earlier instruments built in the 1920s and 1930s. Most of the so called Rife machines on the market today only use these less effective low audio frequencies. If you want the capability of using the same high RF frequencies Rife used in the 1920s and 1930s you will need to purchase a frequency generator capable of outputting frequencies up to at least 2 million cycles per second (2 Megahertz).

Another factor that most likely added to the lowering of the frequencies was World War II. There was a great deal of spy hysteria and the government was monitoring radio transmissions. Dr. Rife was in California right next to the ocean where there was a great deal of German submarine activity. Within about two city blocks was the Bridges estate (his benefactors) and it was being used by the military to monitor all radio activity in the area. The combination of these factors most likely caused the building of the less effective lower audio frequency instruments. Had they used shorter lead wires to the ray tube they may have been able to continue using the high frequency instruments.

By the late 1950s Dr. Rife’s business partners, John Crane and John Marsh, decided to take an off-the-shelf frequency generator and try using in it with the same low audio frequencies used by the 1950s ray tube instrument. Instead of using the ray tube they plugged in some metal disks with handles and used them to make contact with the body. This simple change worked better than they ever could have anticipated. This made it possible for anyone to take a standard off-the-shelf frequency generator and use it with any of the frequencies found by Dr. Rife in his research on microorganisms. These standard off-the-shelf frequency generators are considered electronic test equipment and are available for purchase almost anywhere.

This common sense decision to use standard off-the-shelf frequency generating equipment means that anyone can use standard off-the-shelf frequency generating test equipment the way that Dr. Rife did. There are many companies that sell so called Rife machines. These so called Rife machines are nothing but frequency generators. They call them Rife machines in order to get people to believe that their generator is somehow different than a standard off-the-shelf frequency generator. In most cases standard off-the-shelf frequency generators have a much higher frequency range than many of these so called Rife machines. It isn’t that these so called Rife machines are not good frequency generating equipment but they are just very limited in their frequency range. Dr. Rife used frequencies that ranged from the audio range to the radio range. To cover this range requires a frequency generator that has a range from 1 hertz to about 2 million hertz. Most people want to use all the frequencies that Dr. Rife found, not just a few of them. This is were these so called Rife machines fall short. They only output frequencies in the low audio range and have no capability of putting out frequencies in the range that Dr. Rife used in his 1920s and 1930s equipment.

Because of what has just been explained people should make sure that they purchase a good off-the-shelf frequency generator that covers the full range of frequencies that Dr. Rife used. Another important thing to consider is the fact that the cheaper the frequency generator the fewer the features it may have. Many of the cheaper frequency generators ($500 to $1000) have accuracy problems which means their frequencies will wander. This is very annoying when you are trying to stay on a specific frequency. The more expensive frequency generators are extreamly accurate. Most people would rather spend more money and get something easy to use.

Memory is a very important feature that almost everyone wants to have in a frequency generator. This allows for the storing of many frequency sets that you may want to use over and over again. Many of the frequency lists on the internet have several hundred different frequency sets for various problems. Having adequate memory is a must when using these lists. There are only a few off-the-shelf frequency generators that have adequate memory for storing frequencies that you may want to use over and over again. When you have memory in an instrument you do not have to turn the dial to every frequency you want to use over and over again. Once the instrument is programmed with the frequencies it will automatically change from one frequency to another. If you would rather have an instrument that has the ability to store frequency sets that you want to use over and over again make sure the instrument has sufficient memory and the ability to program frequency sets into it.

The ability to sweep a frequency is another feature you will most likely want in a frequency generator. The ability to put in a start frequency and then have it sweep to an end frequency is a very desirable feature. If the instrument will not let you do this then you will have to manually do the sweep. Anyone who has had to do this hand sweeping method really appreciates having an instrument that has the ability to automatically sweep over a small or large range of frequencies.

Another great feature is having a clock in a frequency generator that will allow you to set the amount of time you want the frequency or sweep to run. Without this feature you have to watch your clock and change to the next frequency by yourself. Having a frequency generator that will automatically do this is a lot easier to use than one that does not have this feature.

These are just a few of the more important features that you may want to consider when looking for a frequency generator. The last and one of the most important features is the power output of an instrument. Most of the off-the-self frequency generators only have a peak to peak voltage of 18 volts. Within reason, the higher the voltage the better the generator will work. You will want one with at least 35 volts peak to peak. Some go as high as 100 volts peak to peak and are even better to work with.

Another thing to realize is the fact that none of this off-the-shelf frequency generating equipment is medical equipment. If a manufacturer calls his frequency generator a Rife machine then it could be considered medical equipment and regulated by the FDA. This is why Rife’s name should never be used to define frequency generating equipment. Off-the-shelf frequency generators are considered electronic test equipment. Do not expect that any of these companies will talk to you about how to use this equipment to treat yourself. If you mention anything about what Dr. Rife did with a frequency generator they will probably not want to talk to you about this subject. These companies do not want their equipment to be considered medical equipment and be under the jurisdiction of the FDA. They would never be so foolish as to call their electronic test equipment a “Rife Machine.”

We have on this site a list of some off-the-shelf frequency generators for you to put into the search engines and find. It is up to you to decide which instrument you may want to purchase. All of these off-the-shelf instruments that we have listed cover the range of frequencies that Rife used in his equipment. Memory, frequency range and sweep capabilities are what you will want to consider. Make sure you ask if their frequency generator has the ability to store frequency sets. Make sure they can at least program and store up to 1000 channels in memory. Below are a few good instruments. The makers of the GB-4000 also make a high frequency ray tube instrumet like those used in the 1930s. They are the only company that we know of that builds a variable high frequency ray tube instrument.

If you decide to purchase an off-the-shelf frequency generator and use it the way that Dr. Rife did then you will want to purchase our Universal Frequency List. Also, there are frequency lists on the web that are in public domain and can be used by anyone. The website below has several frequency lists.

www.electroherbalism.com

All you have to do is look up the frequencies on these lists for anything that you want to experiment with and run them for 3 to 5 minutes each, every two or three days. That is all Dr. Rife did and that is all you have to do. It really is that simple. Do not let indecision paralysis keep you from doing anything. It seems like everyone wants someone to hold their hand through everything and tell them what to do. No one can give you any better understanding than to just do what Rife did. Run the frequencies for 3 to 5 minutes every two or three days and see what happens.

Some people want to know if they can run the frequencies everyday. It is a free country you can do whatever you want to do. If you over do it your body will let you know. Use common sense and start slow. If you have a strong reaction then just back off and take more time between uses. This is what Dr. Rife said the doctors did that used the equipment. Use your own common sense when doing anything. When you ask someone for their suggestion, advice or recommendation you are asking them to be your doctor. If they are not a medical doctor they could get into legal trouble if they give you any advice. Do not ask someone to hang themselves when they really cannot give you any better understanding than what Dr. Rife did.
